News

NEWSLETTER – February 2010

Dear Parents,

There are several good news stories that I would like to share with you before half term.

MUFTI Day

I would like to thank you and your children for the remarkable response to the MUFTI day to raise money for the Haiti Disaster Fund. We raised £772.91. This is a remarkable amount and I would like to thank you all for your generosity.

Playground Equipment

As you may have seen, we have commissioned a nationally accredited firm, ESP, to install a wide range of outdoor equipment for use during playtimes and within the curriculum. The money has been raised through government funding; a bid to Extended Services and through the generosity of parents who have supported PTFA find-raising events. Children will now have the equipment in place to support the government initiative of providing 3 hours of school based physical exercise time. Additionally, it can be used to support most areas of the curriculum. The children are really excited about the project and we are now hoping for better weather so that they can take full advantage of it.

Parents’ Consultation Evenings

I look forward to meeting you at one of the consultation meetings to be held next week, and for Y6 parents, after half term as well. I can appreciate that ten minutes does not appear a long time for discussions with class teachers, but it would be helpful if you could keep to the allotted times. If you feel that your queries have not been answered as fully as you would like, please do not hesitate to meet with me on the night or arrange to see either the class teacher or myself at a mutually convenient time.

Food for Life and Healthy Tuck

We were delighted to receive the Food for Life Gold Award yesterday at a ceremony in Birmingham. William Bird and Lily Oliver-Hall represented the School’s Nutrition Action Group and received the plaque from Monty Don. We have exceptionally high standards within food culture and now we are hoping to lead further national initiatives. As part of this work could I request again your support in providing only “healthy” tuck for your children? We are particularly keen to avoid crisps and chocolate bars – except for “Chocolate Tuesday” which allows some degree of balance. This also has the additional benefit of reducing litter.

Flora Cooking with Schools – Cooking equipment for our school

Our school is registered on the Cooking with Schools website, and we need as many people as possible to support us in order to make our collection a success.  Tokens can be found on special packs of Flora.  Tokens can be sent into school for us to register or you can register them online at www.cookingwithschools.com

Sainsburys Active Kids Vouchers (17th Feb – 8th June)

We are taking part in Sainsburys Active Kids Vouchers again this year.  This represents an excellent opportunity for us to acquire lots of extra equipment for our children.  Last year, with your help we collected a record number of vouchers which enabled us to order lots of play equipment and cooking equipment.

Thank you for all your support with both of these schemes.

Half Term Week

School breaks up for half term at the usual time on Friday 12th February (Young Stars football and Tops Multi Skills will run as usual) and we return to school on Monday 22nd February.
